Coconut oil for hair



Coconut oil has tons of fatty acids. That's why it is a great natural conditioner. That's is not the only benefit from it. Coconut oil can help reduce levels of yeast on your scalp that can lead to dandruff. Also, it is a popular ingredient in a wide range of products.
You can use coconut oil on your own in all kind of homemade hair masks or by adding it to other hair products. That is a great way how to control the amount of oil, reducing the risk of greasy hair. A little bit of coconut oil goes a long way. It is best to start with just a drop or two, see the results, and then adjust the amount accordingly if necessary. Of course, the amount that you need to use depends on the hair length.

Easy coconut homemade hair masks

1. Anti-breakage

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons organic coconut oil (buy here)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 
How to use: 
  1. In a mixing bowl, place 2 tablespoons of melted organic coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix well.
  2. Apply the mixture to damp or dry hair. Leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Rinse. Shampoo and condition hair.

2. Deep Conditioning

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons organic coconut oil (buy here)
  • 2 tablespoons local honey 
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
How to use: 
  1. In a microwave, melt 2 tablespoons of organic coconut oil and heat 2 tablespoons of local honey for a few minutes.
  2. Transfer to a bowl.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Section hair into four equal parts.
  6. In each of these, section hair further into half-inch bundles.
  7. Apply the hair mask with the use of a brush. Start from the roots and make your way into the tips.
  8. Massage hair using fingertips upon finishing one section. This ensures that the mask is absorbed more efficiently.
  9. Tie hair into a bun.
  10. Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes.
  11. Wash using a mild and natural shampoo.
For very dry hair, wear a shower cap or towel and leave the mask on for an hour or so. Rinse afterward.

3. Nourishment and Repair

Ingredients:
  • 1 medium-sized avocado
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons coconut oil (buy here)
How to use: 
  1. Cut 1 medium-sized avocado into chunks.
  2. Puree using a blender.
  3. Add a tablespoon spoon of water to adjust its consistency.
  4. Transfer this to a bowl.
  5. Liquefy coconut oil by immersing its container in a bowl of hot water.
  6. Add 2 to 4 tablespoons to the avocado puree.
  7. Mix well with a spoon.
  8. Apply into dry or damp hair (more prone to breakage).
  9. Using your fingers, massage the mask into your scalp and cover hair strands.
  10. Tie hair up or use a shower cap.
  11. Leave it on for about 10 to 25 minutes.
  12. Rinse thoroughly under tepid running water and wash with a natural sulfate-free shampoo.
  13. Remove excess water.
  14. Dry hair with a towel.

4. Hair Growth

Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin coconut oil (buy here)
  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
  • 5 to 7 drops of rosemary essential oil 
How to use: 
Mix the following ingredients in a bowl:
  • 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin coconut oil,
  • 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel,
  • 5 to 7 drops of rosemary essential oil.
  • Whisk thoroughly until homogenous.
  1.  Using a clean hair dye brush, apply the mask on the scalp. Make sure to target the roots.
  2. Apply the mask to hair.
  3. Tie hair up or use a shower cap.
  4. Leave the mask on for about 15 minutes.
  5. Rinse under lukewarm water and wash with a mild shampoo.
  6. Do this one a week for better results.

5. Treatment of Dandruff

Ingredients:
  • 1 part coconut oil (buy here)
  • 1 part of jojoba oil
How to use: 
  1. Depending on hair length, estimate amounts of coconut oil and jojoba oil. Use a 1:1 ratio. For example, if using one 1/4 cup of coconut oil, you will also add to this 1/4 cup of jojoba oil. This is because of 1:1 means that the quantities of both ingredients will be equal when added.
  2. Mix in a bowl.
  3. Apply to scalp and hair.
  4. Massage the oil into the scalp to dissolve excess sebum. Do this for a few minutes.
  5. Cover hair with shower cap or towel.
  6. Leave for about 30 minutes.
  7. Wash mask off with shampoo.
  8. Condition hair with conditioner, but skip using if you have an oily scalp.
